PURCHASE FROM INDIECATER
Indiecater Records is an offshoot of the Dublin based music blog mp3hugger. Indiecater isn't a record label in any sense we think of. Just about everything they issue is in the form of digital downloads, their artists aren't really signed as such, and they're just keeping enough of the profits to pay the overhead--most of the money goes directly to the artists. In other words, Indiecater exists as an amplifier for unsigned bands to be heard by a greater number of people. Although the label is based in Dublin, their artists come from all over the world.
"Indiecater Christmas 2010" is the label's third Christmas collection. The first two were quite excellent, I thought. Poke around the web site a bit and you'll find you can download a free track from most of their releases, including Nina Hynes' "Twinkle" from the 2008 compilation and "Tinsel Politics" from Standard Fare on the 2009 collection. That 2009 collection also included some great music from The Garlands, Allo Darlin and Betty & The Cavaleros. Snoop around a bit more and you can freely download The Very Most's take on "Away In A Manger" from their "Winter EP". From the 2010 edition, the freebie is Boca Chica's "Not On Christmas Eve". But the song you'll be wanting to get is Natalie Prass' "No Better Time". Trust me.
"Indiecater Christmas 2010" should eventually find it's way to Amazon and iTunes as the first two did, but, to get it now, you'll have to order through the label. The cost is a mere 5 euros (about $6.65 American, if my math is right).
